The government has authorised the import of 100,000 tonnes of rice from the international market from Myanmar and Dubai. Of the total amount, 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from Myanmar under a government-to-government arrangement, while another 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice will come from Dubai, the Advisory Committee on Government Purchases decided on Wednesday. The total cost of the imports will amount to Tk 4.46 billion, the finance ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
