Jahangirnagar University has temporarily suspended 16 students from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology over alleged ragging incidents. A notice signed by Md Mohiuddin, acting director of the university’s Public Relations Office, said some senior students reportedly ragged junior students in Hall No. 21, which followed directives from Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan for the action. Ragging in universities is a form of bullying and harassment, often involving senior students intimidating or humiliating juniors through physical or verbal abuse in the guise of initiation. A three-strong investigation committee has been formed and asked to submit a report with recommendations within 21 working days.
