Portugal's far right wins first mayoral seats in local elections | International

LISBON, Oct 13, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Portugal's far-right Chega party won its first mayoral seats in Sunday's local elections, capturing at least two town halls in small municipalities, according to official results. Chega, which means "Enough", captured mayoralties in Sao Vicente, on the island of Madeira, and in Entroncamento in the central region. The party won second place in snap elections in May, making it the official opposition party in the country just six years after its creation.
