MPO-listed teachers hold demonstration, call work stoppage from Tuesday

Teachers and employees of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) listed institutions are conducting a demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, demanding their housing allowance be raised to 20 percent of their basic salary. Several thousand teachers and employees attended the programme from 9am on Sunday under the banner of the MPO-affiliated Education Nationalisation Alliance. They have announced a work stoppage from next Tuesday to press for their demands. In addition to the housing allowance hike, the protesters are also demanding an increase in medical allowance from Tk 500 to Tk 1,500 and an increase in festival allowance from 50 percent to 75 percent of their basic salary.
