Local government and election expert Tofail Ahmed has died at the age of 71. He passed away around 7:30pm on Wednesday at a hospital in the capital, his son-in-law Lt Col Sarwar Jahan confirmed. He will be taken to Chattogram on Wednesday night for burial on Thursday at the family graveyard in Fatehpur village under Hathazari Police Station. Tofail was a member of the Electoral Reform Commission formed by the interim government. He had also served on the “Local Government Commission” established during the 2006–07 caretaker government.
