Shaheed Zia's canal digging program a philosophy of economic liberation: Mayor Shahadat | Others

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 3, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's canal digging programme was a philosophy of economic liberation that promoted agricultural development and food self-reliance. "The emphasis on agriculture, garment industries and human resource development is key to strengthening the national economy and overcoming present challenges," he said. The Mayor made the remarks while inaugurating a new meeting room and a historic memorial plaque in Harla village of Chandanaish upazila. The plaque marks the site where President Ziaur Rahman was martyred in 1980 while overseeing the digging of the Barumati Canal.
