CHANDPUR, Oct 2, 2025 (BSS) - The government has imposed a 22-day ban on fishing in the Padma and Meghna rivers under Chandpur district from October 4 to October 25 to protect mother Hilsa during the peak spawning season. A 70-kilometre stretch of the Padma-Meghna from Shatnol in Matlab Uttar upazila to Char Bhairabi in Haimchar upazila has been declared a Hilsa sanctuary where all forms of fishing, transportation, marketing and storage of fish will remain strictly prohibited. District and upazila taskforces, along with law enforcement agencies, the administration and the Fisheries Department, have taken necessary preparations to enforce the ban.
