Tarique says Bangladesh risks ‘hidden autocracy’ if unity falters

Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has expressed concerns that Bangladesh could face the rise of masked autocracy if everyone fails to remain united. He spoke during the bi-annual conference of the BNP's South Cumilla unit held at the Town Hall Ground on Saturday. He said, “If we do not unite, just as autocracy took hold after independence and again in the 2008 elections post-1/11, we cannot rule out the emergence of a hidden autocracy in the future, if we fail to communicate with the public properly.” He added: “For the last 16 years, Bangladesh has been under the rule of thieves.
