A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for former Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam in connection with the murder of jute trader Md Monir during the July mass uprising in Chankharpul, Dhaka. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadikur Rahman passed the order following a hearing on Wednesday (24 September). During the hearing, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulok of Shahbagh Police Station, sought a 10-day remand for Kamrul Islam, who was present in court. The prosecution was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon. Kamrul Islam’s lawyer, Aftab Ahmed, applied for bail and requested the cancellation of the remand.
