WhatsApp, Twitch among sites that could face Australia under-16s social media ban | International

SYDNEY, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Tech companies including WhatsApp and Reddit as well as streaming giant Twitch and gaming firm Roblox could be among more than a dozen sites added to Australia's social media ban for under-16s, the country's regulator said Wednesday. Platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube were already included in the ban -- a world-first. But the head of Australia's eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, has written to 16 more companies to "self-assess" whether they fall under the ban's remit.
