Seven people have reportedly been killed in India’s Kolkata and its suburbs after heavy rain waterlogged several parts of the city. The deaths were reported in separate incidents in Beniapukur, Kalikapur, Netaji Nagar, Gariahat, Ekbalpur, Behala and Haridevpur, according to Indian broadcaster NDTV. At least three were caused by electrocution. Flooding in the city disrupted traffic, as well as suburban rail and metro services in the city. Water also entered homes and damaged property in certain low-lying areas. Several schools have declared holidays due to the adverse conditions. The southern and easter sections of the city saw more rain.
