The interim government has permitted 37 companies to export hilsa to India ahead of Durga Puja. The decision came on Tuesday, following applications from the firms, allowing each to export between 30 and 50 tonnes of the national fish of Bangladesh. In the first phase, a total of 1,200 tonnes of hilsa will be shipped by the 37 firms. The export window has been fixed from Sept 16 to Oct 5.
