Framework needed for safety of journalists in Bangladesh, says interim information minister Mahfuj

Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuj Alam has called for the creation of a framework to ensure the safety and security of journalists. He made the call on Monday at the signing ceremony of a group insurance agreement between Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and National Life Insurance Co Ltd, held at DRU premises. The agreement provides coverage for 2,000 journalists aged between 20 and 60, who are DRU members. Benefits include Tk 300,000 for natural death, Tk 380,000 for accidental death, Tk 100,000 for loss of limbs, and Tk 70,000 for surgery. The one-year contract is renewable upon payment of premiums.
