Most EU carmakers on track to meet emission targets: study | International

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Almost all European carmakers are on track to meet EU emission targets after winning a reprieve this year as electric vehicles (EV) sales pick up, a study released Monday showed. The European Commission is under pressure to further loosen its climate requirements for the beleaguered automotive sector faced with Chinese competition and US tariffs. Yet, EVs are expected to represent 18 percent of new cars sold in Europe by the end of 2025, up from 13.6 percent last year, according to advocacy group Transport & Environment (T&E).
