DUCSU election: Backlash as students complain of phone calls from local leaders soliciting votes

Many students expressed anger on Facebook after receiving such calls in support of panels fielded by the BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jamaat-e-Islami’s student front Islami Chhatra Shibir. From Saturday afternoon, several students said, leaders from their home districts had rung them up, asking for votes for the two panels. The backlash prompted Jatiyatbadi Chhatra Dal to expel a local leader in Khulna’s Rupsa Upazila for such conduct. Chhatra Dal’s general secretary candidate Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim also posted to Facebook late on Saturday urging BNP leaders and activists not to call students for votes.
