Protest over ‘offensive’ post blocks roads in Chattogram, Section 144 imposed

Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Chattogram’s Hathazari, banning all forms of gatherings, after tensions flared over a Facebook post referring to Darul Uloom Mueenul Islam, widely known as Hathazari Madrasa. The order, issued by the Hathazari Upazila administration, remains in effect from 10:00pm on Saturday until 3:00pm on Sunday, covering the Hathazari Sadar area. Chattogram deputy commissioner’s staff officer Fahmun Nabi shared the development. Police have taken into custody Aryan Ibrahim, who made the post targeting Hathazari Madrasa. Hathazari Circle Additional Police Superintendent Tarek Aziz said the post sparked a protest by madrasa students on Saturday evening.
