Protesting students at Barishal University have called off their hunger strike after receiving assurances from the vice-chancellor that their demands would be met. VC Prof Mohammad Taufiq Alam convinced the protesters to break their fast around 9:30pm, nearly 24 hours after the hunger strike began. Sujoy Shuvo, organising secretary of the central committee of the Student Democratic Student Council, said: “The vice-chancellor has given a written roadmap for the development of Barishal University. Based on his assurances, the students have withdrawn the hunger strike. The sick students are now healthy.” The roadmap signed by the vice-chancellor states that four demands will be met.
